A Witch’s Amulets (by Carolina Gonzalez)
Text from the book “Witchcraft In The Canary Islands” written by Domingo García Barbuzano. Image from the book “Practise And Belief Of A Canarian Healer”, written by the same author.
Before you read the spells, please keep in mind that these spells are from the XVI century – the controversy about using animal parts of Witchcraft did not exist then. These spells are shown here for educational purposes only, as a historical curiosity. I do not sacrifice animals of any type on my practise, but I will gather any animal part that Nature offers me while I’m making my herbal gatherings, and I think it is each Witch’s right to decide.
Also, words marked between these signs (**) have been added as they were on the book, they are not words in spanish. It is very likely that they are derived from ancient greek.

Take the gizzard of a pigeon, a crow and a partridge, dry them and grind them to a powder. Whenever you want to become invisible, sprinkle the mixture over your head and say: ” *Expybra, sama, eshymen, os derri *, I conjure all those who have the power to cover me, and I shall not be seen by anyone”. After that, say: “*Ardues, ardares, ardues, geres, flavidos*, I conjure all creatures that God made to hide me”.
